JCP&L (Jersey Central Power & Light) serves approximately 1.1 million customers across central and northern New Jersey — including Ocean, Monmouth, Morris, Somerset, Hunterdon, Sussex, Warren, Middlesex, and parts of Mercer and Burlington counties. Here's everything JCP&L customers need to know before going solar.
JCP&L is required under NJ law to offer net metering to residential solar customers. When your solar system produces more electricity than your home uses, the excess is exported to the grid and JCP&L credits your account at the retail rate. Those credits offset electricity you draw from the grid when your panels aren't producing.
JCP&L customers receive net metering credits monthly on their bill. At the 12-month anniversary of your enrollment, any remaining net excess credits may be compensated or carried forward depending on program terms.
Your solar installer submits an interconnection application to JCP&L after installation and local inspection. JCP&L reviews, approves, and upgrades your meter to a bi-directional net metering meter. JCP&L interconnection timelines typically run 6–10 weeks from application — your installer handles the entire process.
JCP&L serves large portions of central and northern NJ, including major portions of:
JCP&L customers pay above-average electricity rates, making solar a strong financial investment across the utility's service area. Combined with the federal 30% ITC, NJ's SuSI production incentive, net metering, and NJ's sales and property tax exemptions, JCP&L customers have a full stack of financial support for going solar.
