Solar battery storage is growing fast in New York — driven by Con Edison's high rates, PSEG Long Island's grid reliability concerns, and strong state incentives for energy storage.
NY battery storage incentives:
- Federal 30% ITC: Applies to battery storage installed alongside solar (or standalone storage charged from solar)
- NY state 25% solar credit: May apply if battery is part of a combined solar-storage system — consult your tax advisor
- Con Edison storage program: Con Ed offers incentives for customers who enroll their batteries in demand response programs
- PSEG Long Island storage incentive: PSEG LI offers similar demand response programs for Long Island battery customers
Common battery options: Tesla Powerwall (13.5 kWh), Enphase IQ Battery (10.08 kWh), SunPower SunVault, and others. Most NY installers are Powerwall-certified. Battery costs: $10,000–$18,000 per unit installed, before incentives.
For Con Edison customers in particular, battery storage provides significant value during summer peak pricing periods and as backup power during grid outages.
