National Grid in Massachusetts: Solar Overview

National Grid serves central and western Massachusetts — primarily Worcester County, Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire counties, plus parts of Essex County in the northeast. National Grid's MA electricity rates are above the national average and support strong solar economics throughout its service territory.

National Grid Net Metering

National Grid Massachusetts offers net metering under the same MA regulatory framework as Eversource. Residential solar customers receive credits for excess generation at a rate determined by the MA DPU. Your installer handles the interconnection application with National Grid after installation is complete.

National Grid SMART Program

National Grid has its own separate SMART program allocation and block structure. Current rates and block availability differ from Eversource territory — your installer will check current National Grid SMART status and lock in your rate at enrollment. The 10-year fixed payment structure is the same as in Eversource territory.
