I owned a Rheem classic viii high effeciency heat pump since 1995. I had three problems over its life. The defrost card failed twice and the compressor pressure line failed due to being improperly supported from the factory. The lline cracked just downstream of the compressor. The compressor is about to fail now. It keeps shutting down on the thermal over heat, but the pressures look good. It has been a fairly good unit all things considered. Two of my friends installed similar Rheem units at about the same time. All three lasted between 12 and 14 years, so that appears to be about the life of the unit.

Bought a new unit four years ago and nothing but problems. Every winter it never goes on. Need to a tech in for repair to have it started. Then summer comes and I need another tech to come and turn on the A/C. This has been going on for four now. have no idea what do do next. Every tech balmes the former tech. $2500.00 for this unti plus 600 a year in tech cost. enough is enough.
