If you are looking for a high quality air conditoner we recommend the Elite product line by Lennox. The Elite XC16 is a two stage air conditioner at a good 17 SEER rating. You can also go with the ultra high efficiency Signature Collection XC21 which is rated at a very high 20.5 SEER. Both units are very quiet with the XC21 rated at a very low 69dB and the Elite XC16 rated at 74dB. Lennox also makes Armstrong and Ducane air conditioners.

The consumer reviews are generally positive for the Lennox air conditioners although some consumers complain about reliability problems and a range of problems with the coils and compressors. JD Power ranked Lennox as the top rated HVAC brand in terms of warranty and repair service. Some consumers also complain that you cannot buy parts direct from Lennox and this is a problem if you like to do some of the repairs yourself. The Lennox two stage air conditioners are considered efficient and quiet but can be on the expensive side.
